INTERNAL
Sewer
Sewer is
provided by the Town of Pembroke, North Carolina. Pembroke has a
1.3 million gallons per day plant with an excess capacity of
900,000 gallons per day; easily expandable to support any
foreseeable development within COMtech.
Water
Water is
provided by Robeson County via a 10-inch or 12-inch main line system both
surrounding and within the COMtech site. This system has a
20,672,000 gallons per day capacity with an excess of 11,473,000 gpd to support any foreseeable development within COMtech.
Electricity
COMtech
is served by Lumbee River Electric Membership Corporation. Major
transmission lines and a substantial substation adjacent to COMtech enable the corporation to meet any power needs. Lumbee
River EMC currently serves over 45,000 residential, commercial
and industrial customers, and in addition, provides electric
services for the 50,000 plus soldiers and airmen at Fort Bragg
and Pope Air Force Base.
Natural Gas
The North
Carolina Natural Gas Corporation operates a major transmission
line and distribution service less than one mile from COMtech.
Sufficient utilization is required to amortize the extension of
service into COMtech. This can be accomplished rapidly. Lesser
use propane and natural gas requirements can be met on-site.
Telecommunications
Telecommunication services are provided by AT&T. These
include digital and copper, OSDN, Frame Relay, CC57, digital
fiber optics, internet access, DSL and ATM. COMtech is two
miles from a major E-W/N-S LD POP. AOL Time Warner offers cable
and high speed internet access. The Public Schools of Robeson
County and The University of North Carolina at Pembroke’s
facilities within COMtech are served by broadband, digital,
fiber optics service, with both supporting teleconferencing
capabilities. These systems may also be available to business
and industry for a fee. The Lumbee River Electric
Membership Cooperation provides high speed, wireless internet
connection at very favorable rates to businesses.
Workforce
Robeson
County has a workforce of over 50,000, with over 200,000
available within a one hour drive. It is also near Fort Bragg
and Pope Air Force Base – sources of highly trained workers who
leave the Military and seek to exploit their skills in the
private sector.
EXTERNAL
Port facilities
The port
of Wilmington offers a 42-foot, mean low water channel and 6,768
ft. of wharf frontage. A major east coast port, it is only 60
miles from COMtech.
Roads
COMtech
is located in the vortex of I-95 (N-S/northeast to Miami) and
I-74 (completed 2006) (E-W/NC coast to the Midwest).

Carolina’s Southeast is truly a crossroads for national rail
transportation, from the classification yards in Hamlet to
the international port facilities in Wilmington. Two of the
nation’s premiere rail companies serve this region. CSX
Transportation and the Northfolk Southern Railway. The major
east coast N-S/E-W CSX lines cross only 2.5 miles from the
COMtech site. There is no direct rail spur extending into COMtech, but loading areas are within three miles of the
site.
